Music Review: Miranda Stone - Seven Deadly Sins
Label: Earthdress
Length: 13/55:54
Spiting out words half sung half spoken, over a friendly loop of simple drum
beat. Partly because the drumming itself almost disappears in the mix, it never
owns the school of rap yet utilizing the same powerful rhythms. The words pours
heart honest emotions that others leave let go unsaid, hidden in their hearts.
Yet we are the better for having them sung out loud.
Problems lie inside and outside our hearts as well as in hearts of those all
around us. Troubles wearing our possessions down to pile of tread bare clothes
that are only fit to be thrown out, if by doing so it didn’t leave us naked
and ashamed in this harsh world.
Struggling with the struggle that is life. Claiming a wish that “This time is
the last time” knowing it will never be a last time. That there will never be
an end, never really a slow down, just another pop up mêlée to attend to.
Towards the end of the song she lets out a self-realizational laugh, this life
goes on and on where the details change but picture stays the same.
The 2nd song steps up the energy by both a overdriven guitar and an honest to
good rock drum beat. Looking for a remedy hoping that a committed friend, a
committed heart, a new sign of commitment burnt into her skin, with a new
identity and way to re-launch her life all over again would some how give her
this remedy. A cure for this malady we are afflicted with.
It’s been said that there are several layers of sharing between people. Level
one might be a simple hello, an acknowledgement of the other person. The next
level might be a discussion of weather and the like. Then the next level, and
the next level, going deeper and deeper until each knows the other closest held
personal thoughts. Some people mistake this deep sharing for love. Although
these often go together they are not the same thing. By sharing so deeply and
honestly with us out of her own life Miranda Stone draws us close to her heart
and we want to take her close to ours.
5th song with the chorus line of “emotions are school bus with a drunkard at
the wheel.” lyrically reminds me a bit of Bill Mallonee (Vigilantes of Love).
Trying to sort our human relationships with logic only out of fear of what
happens when emotions get involved. Because she has seen all the crap and danger
that can hit you on the highway when emotions are aloud to drive your life.
Mostly acoustic instrumentation, acoustic guitar, violin, cello, mandolin,
trumpet, piano, Also occasional electric guitar, organ, and pedal steel guitar.
A wide variety of song styles, being able to fit on college radio, new music
radio, country, & easy listening. Emotionally evocative vocals, great
lyrics, and wonderful music: You can’t go wrong with this CD.
