Scelerata Artisan's Journal
It’s hot, fast and tasty. There are chops, time changes, little monotonous ‘same s%$ different track’, and wonderful seasoning of an accordion type instrument! I don’t like style definitions, but for those of you who like that kind of thing I guess I’ll try; fast, prog, heavy, artful, metal. . . . I’m glad they’re able to do this without sounding like it’s being done for varieties sake. All the parts fit! This is a good debut CD and as the title cut says, “Every second brings a surprise!” (OK maybe not every second, but..) As an aside, the first part of “Spirits Looking For…” sounds like it belongs in cool spy movie sound track.
They include the lyrics! Yea! Although I like listening to this stuff, it sure takes a lot of time sorting out what artist are talking about lyrically. If other artist don’t include the lyrics on the CD, put them on line….. somewhere, offer to e-mail them out …. Bonus points to Scelerata for including the lyrics both on line and on the CD art. Me thinks they might care about that part of their music as well as the fine instrumental work. I’d like to see continued work in depth to the lyrics. Good start, (better than many), but keep striving.
Magnus Wichmann: guitarist and main composer.
Carl Casagrande: lead vocals
Gustavo Strapazon: bass
Bruno Sandri: (plays guitar on CD, recently left the band. Has been replaced by Renato Osorio on guitar)
Francis Cassol: Drums
A fine Brazilian band that has been influenced by Helloween. …. Not that they sound like them, but influenced. However, Scelerata plays a bit faster too. Vocals influenced by Iron Maiden’s Bruce Dickinson. Again influenced, not sounding like.
Has this “type” of thing been done before? Yea, but other bands have done more wanking and less work writing the songs. Sure there are other bands with good players and production, but to get those talents in combination with strong compositional skills is what I think will set this band apart. Let’s hope they keep up the good start.
