Mannafest - Thinking Clearly

1st song “Insight” great GooGoo Dolls vibe.  Smart guitar lines nice layering of parts

2nd song “Shadow” smooth transition into this from “Insight” In fact the first time I listened to it I thought they were part of the same song.

3rd song “Color” stars slow and melodic. . . . . doesn’t stay that way.

4th song “Silence” sounds like someone who is not very comfortable with in his own skin especially if he’s alone.  It’s a sad malady of today’s society.  We keep running faster and faster, got to fill the empty void that’s left when one’s all-alone.  We don’t know what to do with peace and quiet or should I just say quiet ‘cause we certainly are not finding peace.

5th song “You At Last” “There’s nothing left to hold, so what am I to grasp?”

6th song “Blue Star” another fine job of layering parts.  (and I like the delayed guitar effect.)

This is a band that reports life like they find it, uncomfortable or not.  I’d much rather have that kind of honesty then some glittered packaged pabulum.  They also manage to play intelligent music without become prog-rockers.

7th song “Thinking Clearly” key line here is “Seek and you will find truth.”

8th song “The American Dream” this one stands up politically incorrectly, not afraid to speak their mind.  Although personally I’d exchange the “cold and dead religion” verse with the 1st verse.  I think people would tend to get sucked into the song better that way.

A couple moody textured instrumentals closeout the CD.  “Adourner” (solo piano) and “Waking Vision”.

Nice art work and layout on the on the CD packaging except for the “We would like to thank” page which looks like more of an after thought with regards to the over all packaging.

Also I was wondering why they named there web page “Dreamamericandreams” I would think you’d want it tied in closer with part of the business end of the band, production company, or indi record company.  As it is, it’s a bit forgettable.   (The name of the record company is never made clear……maybe this is the name of the record company?)

This is a commercial band, the package is quite uniform. It’s very enjoyable.
