Music Review: Infradig - Kinetic Transfer

With “Kinetic Transfer” Infradig (formally Infradig Ensemble) is mixing live jamming over a head (or sometimes just an idea) with re-mix studio techniques from dance mix land.  In the past part of their strength lay in there “groove-oriented approach.  They’ve expanded that with their “4 weeks of tweaking, scrutinizing, and knob turning” that they did after the initial 21 hours of recording for “Kinetic Transfer.”

The band continues to grow with this addition it’s previous mix of elements from jazz, hip-hop, and rock.  Refusing to sit still and glow in past accolades Infradig expanded and redesigned itself as a living soulful creation.  I would like to see the instruments given a little more solo space, but then part of what’s so delightful about Infradig is that they play the songs as a unit, although the keyboards do seem to get more of the infrequent solos.   Having heard the band both live and on the earlier recordings, I know that the other members are capable of some fine soloing as well.

Infradig is Josh Green-drum set and percussion, Andrew Hobbs-guitar, Dave Kaufmann-electric and acoustic basses, Carl Cadwell-keyboards.  No vocals required.  423-825-7034 www.infradig.net  everyone@infradig.net   The band has 3 previous releases, two as a trio of guitar, bass, and drums, and the other one full band including sax which was recorded live called Market St Boogaloo.

“Kinetic Transfer” at times is like movie music.  It’s moving music that massages memories, melts melodic moments rendering mystic motionless themes.  Infradig is a band that's worth investing in your hard earned money in.  You’ll get great music and it’ll help keep their music alive.
